So, I've been enduring Staff Week at Tapawingo this past week, and couldn't snag the computer there. And unlike in the past, this year, staff couldn't leave camp once our training was done for the day. *Grumbles* Don't even get me started on camp at the moment....I have some complaints there, but yeah. I should probably wait until I can form them into coherent, organized thoughts.
To begin, I finally managed to read the prologue of Misora's new fic, and WOW!!! Definitely whets the appetite for more...I really can't say how thrilled I was to see that particular alert in my inbox, especially since I was getting discouraged. The majority of the 150+ emails that stacked up in my week w/o the net were simply junk. I love the work of Vic Mignogna and Crispin Freeman (voice actors, for those who don't know) and so I joined the mailing lists they have on Yahoo...and sometimes the messages that come through are fun...othertimes, I just can't spare time to read them and they clutter up my inbox.
Am trying to complete Adjustments, and do more work on my H/D fics...and my HP ones as well. Going slow. *Grumbles* Maybe it's because I can't open my copies of the fics! All this computer has is Word Processor, not Word itself...*sigh* I want Adjustments done before Nicole heads off to Japan, so she can take it with her...and so my other betas can look over it, of course.
Anyone read the new Nancy Drew (Girl Detective) and the Hardy Boys (Undercover Brothers) SuperMystery yet? It isn't terrible, though the gang aren't quite how they used to be. On the bright side, Nan is slightly less annoying that she was in the GD books...no clue if the boys are better than they are in the UB series or not, since I've not read any of those. But it seems this series might be swinging to Joe/Nancy, instead of Nancy/Frank - I won't complain, though! I can admit that either Hardy is a great match for our girl...or, at least, that's my humble opinion.
Nothing against the trraditional canon pairings - actually, I still can't decide whether Holiday Heartaches, when it reachescompletion (oh, please, let it reach completion, along with my other fics!) will end in Nancy/Ned (yes, he's back!), Nancy/Frank, or Nancy flying solo. I doubt I'd toss another guy into the arena. And while I've been told I could probably use either the Bedtime verse or the Holiday-verse to play with Nancy/Joe, I don't think I'll write that pair in those verses. It could be possible in ID as well, but I'd like to avoid it. Still, I make no promises in my pairings. The moment I do, I seem to break my word.
And yes, I bought it on June 1. Of course! Funnily enough, one of my fellow counselors basically cursed me for reading such a poor, watered down version of the original characters. I told her that if I didn't read them, how else could I have some mockage fun? Besides, the new book wasn't horrible...I just don't know that I'll be rereading it much, unlike some of the old SMs. And yet, I'll spend the money on it, because it's a crossover. Go figure.
ETA: Thanks to Draco (fellow staff member - it's her camp name), I am once again expanding my love of fantasy. She and I have very similar tastes - she introduced me to Charles DeLint and Terry Pratchett (sp? I'm horrible at last names sometimes), as well as Neil Gaimon (again, sp? sorry - will look up correct versions later).
This year, she's started me off with Joanne Berton, and wow. Just finished The Last Dragonlord. Can you say amazing? Really! Weredragons! What a cool idea!
ARGH! And I can't get this camp song out of my head...camp tunes stuck in my head usually get posted to my Xanga, though this one might get posted in both places...
