I stand by my mother's philosophy: If they are old enough to understand it, let them read it. It turned out fine for my siblings and I - if something was too mature for us, we put it back on the shelf.

I don't agree with every book ever written. Far from it. But books expose kids to ideas - maybe those ideas support anarchy or eugenics or racism. But who is to say that a kid reading those ideas will adopt them? If approached correctly, the books spouting such ideologies can be used as teaching tools, to spark discussion, debate, and new ideas from the kids themselves. Some kids may choose to adopt those beliefs anyway - if that's the case, something tells me the book was only fuel for the fire, not the cause.

And sometimes, the reasons for banning books are ridiculous. Yes, there are stereotypes in Dickens, Twain, and others. Do we not remember the time period these were written in? By banning the books because of the stereotypes within them, we are ignoring history and the chance to show how attitudes have changed. Banning books, to me, doesn't say "We are open-minded to everyone, and are therefore suppressing this offensive material." It says "We are AFRAID to TEACH how we have CHANGED or, sadly, perhaps STAYED THE SAME."

And here's another part! I really need to get back to regular updates at some point, just so I don't keep forgetting where I left off!

This post officially marks the halfway point. Adjustments, in full, is 181 pages - according to Word. That means page 90.5, which is in this post, is the halfway mark.

Here's another - I'll be adding a third in a minute. Good grief, not even halfway through this thing...

Wow. So, uh...I got rather delayed in posting the next part, didn't I? *Blush* Oops.

Apparently, two more Voyager books were published this year, which I never noticed. Also, apparently, Janeway was killed off in a Next Generation novel. ARGH! I need to get these new Voyager books! (Not so sure I want to read the Next Gen book, since I've seen enough of "Janeway dies" in Voyager canon)

In other news, I still lack motivation to work.

Instead of doing my homework like a good girl (and like a master's student who actually wants to earn her degree). And I saw this:

Within Temptation. I would LOVE to see them in concert. I became a fan of theirs after hearing several AMVs featuring their songs, and realizing that their style was a lot like that of Nightwish. Well, I was already a fan of Nightwish, and once I got ahold of some Within Temptation albums...

If they ever came to the states, and were in a city in IL or in a nearby state, of course I would try to see them. Even if it meant skipping class or work, I would consider it. I did it for Nightwish, for Kamelot, for Edguy...why not do it for Within Temptation?

I was reading this article: http://www.khq.com/Global/story.asp?S=11151502 and the words "psychiatrist Frank Hardy" (bolding mine) popped out at me.

My first thought was "So that's what Frank Hardy did when he grew up!" Yeah...clearly, I'm too much of a Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew fan.

By the way, any Amon/Robin shippers out there, there are some moments in the pages I uploaded tonight, and I would love to know if I struck the right balance...

This thing seems even longer when pasting it in 10-page chunks...Also, I think this particular section has a conversation in it that repeats in the fic a few times last I went through it...still trying to decide where it fits best, basically.

Maybe I'll post 10 more pages of this to procrastinate from homework a little longer.

Again, feedback welcomed, even if you hate it. I would love for this fic to move out of its rough stage and into a finished product I can post to FFN.

In which Katie has attempted writing a battle scene, which is not her strong point at all...

Both entries are tonight, since I won't be able to do it later this week.

Because there's 181 pages of this to wade through. And yeah, since I plan to only post 20-30 pages a week (to make things easier on my self and anyone reading), and might post other stuff, it'd be helpful to find. So, the tag will go along with what has always been the working title of this fic: Adjustments. I'll still use the WHR and fic snippet tags as well, but this way, you can be sure of finding this fic.

If you wondered why I'm friends-locking it, it's because of the fact it's still rough. I'm already nervous as is exposing it for review, but I need the input badly. But I want the final product to at least surprise someone!

A/N: I've had this baby sitting on my computer for...oh, I don't like to really consider how long it's been. I started in '06, finished in '07, and it's been languishing in a half-edited state ever since.

I've decided I clearly need some reinforcements. Anyone is welcome to read - if you feel you can't comment on characterization due to unfamiliarity with the fandom, even comments on plot and pacing would be appreciated.

That being said, this never had chapter breaks. I think I'm just going to post this in 10 page segments (it's what LJ allows), and if you spot a section that would work well, let me know.
